Our Board Members
Mr John Olive
John has served on the CatholicCare Social Services board since 2014 and was appointed to the role of Chairperson late 2016. Graduating from USQ in 2004, John holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a double major in Accounting and Electronic Commerce. John obtained his Chartered Accountant status in 2007 and is currently a Partner at Horizon Accounting Group. He is also recognised by the Taxation Institute of Australia as a Chartered Tax Advisor. John has extensive experience advising a broad range of clients, especially small to medium family enterprises. John is married and is the proud father of two children.
Father Ray Crowley
Originally a student of St Joseph’s and St Mary’s in Toowoomba, Father Ray went on to formal studies in Theology and Philosophy at Banyo Seminary in Brisbane before he was ordained in 1972. After ordination, Father Ray served in Parishes across the Diocese including Parishes in Warwick, South Toowoomba and Roma. In 1982, Rather Ray moved into the Chaplaincy and Counselling arena when he was intrusted to initiate the Counselling Departments in two of our Diocesan Colleges. Over time as these teams grew, Father Ray was able to move into a role supporting the Counsellors and Chaplains in these departments and then extend his support to other Counsellors working within the Catholic Framework. Today Father Ray not only provides support to Chaplains in Catholic Education but has a wider involvement in the community, particularly facilitating groups for those affected by grief and walking with those who are dying. Father Ray Crowley has served on the CatholicCare Social Services board since 2016.
Dr Lachlan Rathie
Lachlan joined the Board in late 2018. He is a Senior Staff Anesthetist at the Toowoomba Base Hospital. He has served tenures as Departmental Director and Deputy Director as well as being the Supervisor of Training for the last decade. He first came to Toowoomba in 1995 as a junior doctor and completed training as a rural GP. He worked in Dalby and Goondiwindi as a procedural rural doctor before pursuing a career in anesthesia. His wife, Trish, is also a rural GP and has postgraduate qualifications and extensive experience with the medical education of rural practitioners. They have three teenage children, the oldest of which is studying medicine. The family attend and are involved with St Bart’s Anglican Church and all think Toowoomba is a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
Ms Andrea Frost
Andrea has served on the CatholicCare Social Services board since 2015 and was appointed to the role of Deputy Chairperson late 2016. Andrea holds a Bachelor of Education from USQ as well as a Master of Arts (Journalism and Mass Communication) from Griffith University. With a background in journalism, communication and stakeholder engagement, Andrea currently works coordinating the Media Relations team at Toowoomba Regional Council. Andrea gives generously of her time to the Catholic Diocese including serving as Deputy Chair for the Social Justice Commission, which advocates for those facing injustice, and volunteering with SPRED, which supports the religious, social and emotional development of those with an intellectual disability.
Dr Ken Avenell
Ken commenced serving on the CatholicCare Social Services Board in 2018. He is currently working as the Acting Director of Formation and Identity for Toowoomba Catholic Education. His work centres around developing, coordinating and aligning capability through continuing formation, relationships and learning for individuals, teams and the TCS organisation. Growing up in Longreach, Ken learnt to read and play chess from a host of post-war migrants. This multicultural mix has given him a passion for literature, poetry and music.
With many years spent committed to Education in Australia Ken has received many awards, such as the Queensland ACEL Excellence in Educational Leadership and is a highly valued member of the community.
Mr Pat Nunan
Pat has been serving on the CatholicCare Social Services board since 2018 and has been a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and High Court of Australia since 1972, as well as a Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) for the Australian Army Legal Corps. A Litigation lawyer by profession, Pat has been acting for plaintiffs and insurers (inc WorkCover Queensland and Catholic Church Insurance Limited) in personal injury and commercial litigation, as well as an Australian Defence Force legal advisor for the past 46 years. Over 40 years’ experience in NFP organisations including but not limited to the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce (life member, past president); Chair Downlands College Ltd; Deputy President Queensland Parole Board: Chair, Southern Inland Queensland Area Consultative Committee.
Ms Michelle Alroe
With over 25 years’ experience in the legal services industry, Michele is currently the Head Office and Finance Manager at Alroe & O’Sullivans Solicitors. Michele’s experience as Proprietor of successful local businesses and her well-developed leadership skills prepared her to serve as a Councillor on the Toowoomba City Council for 8 years from 2000 to 2008. Combining her extraordinary experience with a Diploma of Management, Michele also offers support to local business women through her membership of Leading Ladies Toowoomba and the Circle Club. In addition Michele is a volunteer member of the mentoring team at the Toowoomba Flexi School which is a part of the Centenary Heights High School campus. Michele has served on the CatholicCare Social Services board since 2016.
