To this end Murri Court has been operating since 2010.  Clients referred to Murri Court must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and pleading guilty to their offences.  When a client is referred to Murri Court they must be willing to address any issues they may have and a Murri Court plan is put in place.  If clients engage well with service providers, the Magistrate takes this into consideration when sentencing.

Two local respected Elders, Aunty Beryl Pegler and Uncle Darby McCarthy sit with the Magistrate in Murri Court providing cultural support and guidance not only to the Magistrate but also to the defendant.  The Elders of the CJG visit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander inmates in correctional centres providing support and mentorship also.
