Heal Country, Heal Our Nation

Sunday 4th marked the commencement of NAIDOC Week for our indigenous communities and all Australians from all walks of life to celebrate the First Nations people's culture, history and achievements.

The theme this year was “Heal Country, Heal our Nation”. For our Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander people, ‘Country’ is fundamental to their identity. It sustains their lives in every aspect - spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and culturally. It is more than a place.

This week was an important week for CatholicCare and our Yumbin team (Yumbin is from the Wakka language and means ‘together all of us’) as it was an opportunity to connect, educate and reflect on our First Nations people.

There were many events held across the southwest that our Toowoomba and Roma offices were delighted to participate and support. The Chronicle has put together a gallery showcasing the colour and hype surrounding Toowoomba Regional Councils NAIDOC Week Community Day.
