A world of Stories, Introducing Aluel’s Story
A young girl growing up in South Sudan was very difficult. Aluel was 1 of 8 children to farming parents. Her parents farmed to feed her large family and sold whatever was leftover to make a little bit of money to buy supplies to plant the next crop. There was never enough food to eat and the likelihood of being married while she was still a child herself was a high possibility, as a lot of Sudanese families rely on dowries to survive.
A world of Stories, Introducing Shakeela’s Story.
Originally born in Afghanistan, Shakeela, her mother, two brothers and sister moved to Pakistan at an early age, where she lived there for the next 16 years. Wanting to build a brighter future for her and her family, she contacted the United Nations Refugee Agency who assisted her with an application for a Humanitarian Visa. After 18 months of waiting she was granted the right to move to Australia.
